This is truly a Transformation Tuesday story. It might just be my favorite illustration of why working with a great professional and capturing an authentic headshot is so important!
The two co-workers arrived together, but Gilligan was clearly not very happy about being here. He was surly and grumbling about being photographed and not being given enough notice ahead of time. I pulled out all my best techniques, but after a while it became clear he just really didn't care. "It's fine. It doesn't matter. I'm sure there's one that will work fine." So I explained that I really just wanted him to be himself. And suddenly he began to admit, "Well, I'm not sure my boss wants me to be myself." Having worked with his boss for a while, I was confident she would absolutely want him to be himself! I dug a little deeper and discovered he wears his hair differently and normally wouldn't wear a polo shirt. And his co-worker chimed in and said, "Yeah, this is not what he usually looks like!" WAIT WHAT!?!?! Stop the press! I was totally confused.
I ran around madly looking for a hair product that might help us shift the energy and put us on the right path. Luckily I found something that might work and Gilligan disappeared into the bathroom.
Authentic Headshots Make the Difference
A few minutes later he came back into the studio confessing that it was not quite how he usually wears it, but it was close. And when I glanced through my lens, I could not believe my eyes! What happened to Gilligan? And who is this guy? Suddenly I was in the room with a completely different person. His eyes were lit up. He was comfortable and relaxed and beginning to enjoy the process. And he looked like a completely different person... He looked like himself!
I remembered he mentioned he wore glasses and that he brought another shirt to wear. (I love it when clients take my advice and bring options to change into. It's always a good idea to have options, especially in situations like this!) So we took a few shots with the darker colored shirt. And then he busted out the glasses. And POOF! Gillian had transformed into the handsome "Clark Kent" right before my eyes. We wrapped up and I was floating. That was SO MUCH FUN! Watching someone transform right there before your eyes and seeing them get comfortable in their skin and own who they are... that is amazingly fun! When our session was over, Gillian left looking and feeling like Superman. Who would you want to do business with? Would you prefer the infamous "3 hour tour?" I think I'd hire superman!
Is your headshot is costing you money, or making you money?
And if you haven't already glanced at my post about HOW TO PREPARE for a headshot session, please be sure to take a look! Luck favors the prepared!
