How to Market Your Business with Unique Corporate Headshots Charleston SC

by Tanya Boggs, How to Market Your Business with Unique Corporate Headshots Charleston SC

Corporate Headshots Charleston SC In today’s media-driven world, advertising is not just about getting your name out there anymore. To make your business or career successful you have to stand out among the competition by putting your best face forward, too. From company websites to business-oriented social media sites like LinkedIn, YOU are the most powerful marking tool on your page. Great corporate headshots {Charleston SC} can make your page more personal and approachable. Consider these fresh photo shoot ideas to get you and your business noticed with unique corporate headshots (Charleston, SC).

Show your personality

Your confidence will shine through in the headshot if you feel comfortable during the photo shoot. Bring a few pieces of clothing that you feel confident wearing. Think beyond basic white or suit and tie. Choose a few bright colors and intersting accessories to switch it up based on your surroundings.
corporate headshots charleston scNervousness is normal, so bring along something that makes you feel good, like your favorite shoes or a fun skirt/pair of pants (that won’t necessarily show up in the shot.) Also consider having your favorite music on your phone during the shoot to keep things fun and light.

Bring along props if appropriate. For example, if you have an animal-related business, having a dog in the headshot alongside of you makes sense and can be a useful marketing tool. If you are in the corporate world, props aren’t necessary. However, if you would also like a headshot for social media, such as Facebook, as well as a professional one, a prop is a great way to reflect your personality.

Be photographed in YOUR personal space.corporate headshots charleston sc

Being in your natural working environment, like sitting at your desk or in the board room helps break up the monotony of a boring corporate headshot. A lawyer might want to be seen inside a courtroom, or out on the courthouse steps.

Choose a natural setting

corporate headshots charleston scOutdoor photo shoots are a fresh approach to creating a marketable headshot. By taking advantage of natural light and organic surroundings, you can achieve a unique backdrop. Different surfaces are available to create more interesting and textural backdrop

Talk to your photographer and together you can decide what works best for YOU! Your photographer should be able to help you brainstorm ideas on what makes sense for you and your branding.  Mixing up your photo session in innovative and creative ways will help you achieve authentic and candid corporate headshots that will make you stand out in today’s marketplace. The possibilities are endless for both business and personal use when you take a fresh approach. Please contact us for a portrait consultation. Tanya can help you achieve headshots that get you and your business noticed because she believes in capturing the best. real. you.

Tips To Take Better Photos Of Your Children {Children’s Photography}

March 10, 2015 by Tanya Boggs Leave a Comment

Childrens Children's Photography, Charleston

by Tanya Boggs, Tips To Take Better Photos Of Your Children {Children’s Photography, Charleston}

With digital cameras, more people (especially moms) have the ability to take pictures of their children. However, often people just take picture after picture, not really thinking about what the photos look like because we can delete any of that do not turn out. And more and more people keep their pictures on their computers and only post them to social media instead of displaying any of the special pictures that they take. It is time to take better photos of our kids so that we are proud to show off our photographs again.

Here are some tips to improve the quality of our pictures.

_MG_5325• Take both posed and un-posed pictures. Posed pictures are fun but you can also get some really great shots just watching your children play. You can capture great joy in their face if you just watch them and capture the right moment.

• Put the camera down. We don’t have to take a picture of every moment. Instead, be sure to enjoy spending time with your children and save your camera for some of the more important memories. This will guarantee that you will want to print out the photographs that you do take and show them off.

(Children’s Photography, Charleston SC)

children's photography• Get professional pictures taken. Even if you do take a lot of pictures, it is fun to get professional pictures taken at least once in a while. You can learn new ways of posing your children and fun things to do when taking pictures. Many people can learn a lot while watching a professional photographer.

Childrens photography• Get down and up-close to your child. It is amazing how a different angle can really change your photographs. So, get down low next to your child and take some pictures. You will be amazed by the results.

Are you one of the people take too many pictures of their kids and don’t do anything with them? Maybe it’s time to put the camera down and take less pictures so you will enjoy the ones you do take. Also think about taking both posed and natural pictures. You’ll also notice a big difference if you change your perspective, the angle at which you take the picture. So, get down on the same level as your child, maybe get up close and personal, you can even try shooting from above, more of a bird’s eye view, and snap away!

Contact us for all of your photography needs. We can take the professional shots that you will be proud to show off!

Look and Feel Your Best {Charleston Photographers}

March 5, 2015 by Tanya Boggs Leave a Comment

by Tanya Boggs, How To Look and Feel Your Best When Getting Your Picture Taken {Charleston Photographers}

Charleston Photographers

Getting your photo taken can be as frightening as going to the dentist, especially when you don’t consider yourself photogenic. But you’re not alone. Many people face this problem, but there are remedies to make you look your very best.

Yes, some people are naturally photogenic, as for the rest of us, let’s take a deep breath and acknowledge we’re not really getting teeth pulled! And, guess what? Looking and feeling good in front of the camera is a skill that you can learn! Here are some tips to look good for the camera and bring out the most beautiful you.

Tanya Boggs PhotographyEmbrace Your Uniqueness

Photogenic people seem confident no matter where they are or what they’re wearing. But notice that word, confident. It’s not because they’re any more attractive than the rest of the world, it’s because they’re less self-conscious about their appearance.

Many people lack the confidence because they find faults on their face such as the gap in your teeth, the crow’s-feet that appear when they smile, or their stubborn hair. Rather than trying to hide what you consider your ‘faults’, embrace what makes you unique! You’ll feel more confident not only in your photos but also in your life.

(Charleston Photographers)

Charleston PhotographersRelax and Get Comfortable

Remember, it’s just a photo, not a job interview. And you can take as many photos as needed until you get it right. Even on photo shoots with professional models, ESPECIALLY on professional shoots, the photographer takes hundreds  (sometimes thousands) of photographs. And guess what, like a job interview, you can come prepared, sport your best outfit, get your hair the way you want it, and shoot until you get it right!

Try to forget the camera! It can be hard at first, but keep breathing. Relax, play, let go. Make the event memorable and have fun rather than a chore or duty.  Try out different poses and try having the main light on different sides or coming from different directions to see what works best for you.

charleston photographers-headshots--3Choose The Right Photographer

While beauty is in the eye of the beholder, it is also in the eyes of the photographer. Choosing the right photographer will make a big difference in how confident you feel.

You want to ensure your photographer is open to your needs and tastes. Avoid photographers that have a one pose fits all approach. Choose one that’s flexible instead. A good photographer will value your uniqueness and do their utmost to capture the best real you.

They’ll make you feel comfortable, bring out your natural confidence and help you address any fears or hangups you have. Consider this when you make your decision.

Tanya Boggs Photography-Be sure to communicate with your photographer the things you DON’T LIKE about photographs of you. A good photographer will have a good knowledge base and some tricks up their sleeve to overcome some of your concerns! Do you feel like your eyes look a little squinty in photographs? The photographer can shoot from slightly above causing you to lift your eyes to the camera. Shooting from this higher angle also works to help eliminate a double chin. Do you hate it when your smile looks fake? Hopefully you will build a rapport with your photographer and they can help you achieve a natural smile. Otherwise, try the laughing game: Try to make yourself laugh, even fake it if you have to, eventually it’s contagious and you will start laughing and smiling naturally.

Branding Your Business with Photography {Charleston Photography}

February 17, 2015 by Tanya Boggs Leave a Comment

by Tanya Boggs, Branding Your Business with Photography (Charleston Photography)

Charleston Photography-brandingThe New Year is a great time for business professionals and entrepreneurs to focus on how they can begin or continue to build their business and personal brand to generate new customers. Are you overlooking an important element in your business? Here is why you should focus on branding your business with photography.

charleston photography-branding

branding with photography-charleston photographyNow more than ever it’s important to have quality, up-to-date on-brand images!

Mirror selfies won’t cut it in the professional world. In order to stand out from your competitors you want your photographs to show you in a professional manner but with your own personal flair. Having professional images shows people you are invested in your business and gives people a better idea of who you are. The online interaction becomes more personal!  And when it comes to profile pictures, you definitely don’t want your headshot to be a photo where you’ve cropped someone out. Talk about unprofessional! I recommend investing in a new headshot every year. People are constantly changing their appearance, and you will want the photo to reflect how you look now. It will present a more honest image, and your audience will trust you more. And when it comes to appealing to potential clients, I can’t stress enough the importance of building TRUST!

branding with photographyYour photography and headshots should reflect your brand

I’ve often said, people do business with PEOPLE, not with businesses. As Genavieve Shingle, a lawyer in New York, pointed out in a New York Times article about Branding and Photography, “People buy you, more so than your exact services or goods,” she said. “My business is truly and authentically me, so I wanted to make sure that this came out in my social media presence.” Everything you put out to the public will have an effect on your business, including your headshot. You only have a few seconds to make a first impression. If you don’t look professional in the image you are putting out to the world, potential clients will go somewhere else for their business needs. A professional headshot that accurately reflects your brand will inspire trust in your audience. You should look polished and put together. A solid background is typically the standard for business shoots and professional headshots but many professions can and should consider not using typical backgrounds. Instead opt for images that showcase you and connect with your brand. A non-traditional location and approach to the photography can make you stand out in a sea of ordinary. Talk with your photographer on how the best to achieve a look that fits your brand.

Charleston PhotographerInvest in a professional

HubSpot wrote a blog listing 19 reasons to use visual content that confirms “90% of information transmitted to the brain is visual, and visuals are processed 60,000X faster in the brain than text. (Sources: 3M Corporation and Zabisco).” You want to look your absolute best in your photographs because this is often the first impression with your audience or potential customers especially in the era of social media. From marketing materials to self-promotion, your headshot can be used on your social media accounts, website, and business cards, brochures and bios. Some people even use them in their email signature or on proposals.  Invest in a professional photographer because it is just that, an investment in your brand and business and you can get a lot of miles out of great photographs. You are paying for their expertise in how to best capture the look you want, and the feel that best represents your brand. You may have a digital camera lying around but avoid the temptation of trying to take your own photos. More than likely they will come out looking amateurish and that is far from the impression you want to give to potential customers.

Tips for Great Headshots {Charleston SC – Business Portraits}

January 30, 2015 by Tanya Boggs Leave a Comment

by Tanya Boggs, Tips for Great Headshots {Charleston SC}

headshots charleston scHere at Tanya Boggs Photography in Charleston, SC, we have a few tips to make sure you have a great headshot session with us!

The San Francisco Examiner liked them so much, they wrote an article using our tips about headshots {Charleston, SC}!

1. PLAN AHEAD: It is important to be prepared for the day of your shoot if you will want to get the most out of your photo session and give the Photographer the best chance to do their job effectively and easily.

  • Look at your old pictures as well as images from other sources that you find inspiring. If possible send them to the photographer ahead of time or bring them to your session. When looking at images, think about what you like and why? Are there things you don’t like and why? Communicating this to information to the photographer is extremely helpful. You can arrange a consultation with your photographer to discuss your goals, and ideas as well as possible wardrobe, hair, and make-up.
  • Schedule your hair appointment so that you are ready for the day of your shoot. (Get your roots touched up, etc.) If possible have your hair styled and your make-up done the day of your session.
  • Drink lots of water the day before and get a good night’s sleep.

(Headshots Charleston SC)

2. BE COMFORTABLE and BE YOU: When it comes to clothing, make-up and hair, your headshot should look like YOU! And you should look comfortable.

  • Clothing: Try your outfits on BEFORE the day of the shoot to be sure everything still fits and that there are not defects. I’ve had clients show up with clothing that no longer fits either because it is too big or too small. And make sure the fit is COMFORTABLE! I can’t emphasize this enough. If you are uncomfortable or self-conscious about anything you are wearing it will show! And the reverse is true as well, if you feel good and feel comfortable that will come across in your images. Once when working with a client who appeared bare foot after a clothing change, she asked, “Do I need to put on my shoes since my feet don’t show?” My answer is, “Whichever makes you feel better.” After a few shots, she went to put on her heels and said, “I just feel sexier in heels.”
  • Avoid small patterns such as checkerboard, polka-dots and stripes. If it’s too small it can look strange in a photo. Textures can be nice. Look at collars and necklines that will “frame” you. Most importantly, think about your personality and what you want to communicate to your audience. Are you are really outgoing and fun, then a bright color can be fun. If you are a little softer, then think about something more subtle or subdued. Are you business casual or should you come across a little more conservative? Bring a couple of outfits with you so the photographer can help you choose what’s best. Better to bring too much than to not have options.
  • Make-up: We want the images to look like you, but you’ll need to wear a little extra make-up. The camera has a tendency to remove make-up. If you normally don’t wear make-up, KEEP IT SIMPLE: a little blush, a little mascara, and some lipstick will do. If you can use a small line of eyeliner on your top eyelid (this can help the eyes pop a little more). But if you don’t feel comfortable putting on make-up at all, check to see if your photographer has a make-up artist and discuss the fees. Or your local hair stylist might be able to point you in the right direction. Just let the make-up artist know how you want to look and that this is for a photo shoot. A qualified make-up artist will know what to do!
  • Bring your make-up kit with you so you can make adjustments and touch-ups as necessary.
  • Hairstyle: Again, you want to look like you, so there is no need to do anything special or out of the ordinary for your hair. You might opt have your hair styled that day, and oftentimes your stylist can do make-up as well. But make sure you don’t end up with a strange hairdo that does not look like you!

(Headshots Charleston SC)

3. HAVE FUN: The most important thing you can do is to decide to have fun on your shoot. Relax. Take a deep breath. Enjoy yourself, you’re not at the dentist! If you have fun, it will show up in your images!

4. Avoid being overly re-touched! Again, it is important that you look like yourself. It is standard to remove dark circles under the eyes and a blemish or two, and to smooth the complexion a little. But make sure you don’t end up looking plastic or like you got facelift. Sometimes it’s hard to accept that we’re getting older. But we are. Try to remember you’re picture perfect!
